Arsenal transfer: Inter CEO claims interest in Gunners defender
Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has been discussing the club’s pursuit of Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin to Sky Italia.
The Spaniard looks set to end his long-standing association with the Gunners this summer. Several clubs have been linked with the right-back, with Inter particularly interested.
The Serie A champions lost Achraf Hakimi earlier this summer to PSG. Bellerin has been identified as a possible replacement.
Despite several reports claiming that the Italians are interested, Marotta has remained coy on his interest in the player.
He told Sky Italia: “He is a name that has been mentioned before, there’s our interest, but I won’t go any further, because he’s not our player. I won’t rule anything out.”
Bellerin is valued at £17 million by Arsenal. Some clubs have, however, expressed an interest in loan to buy deals – which the Gunners aren’t thought to be keen on.
The 26-year-old has been in North London since 2011. He has risen through the youth ranks, going onto make 239 appearances for the Gunners.
In recent times though he has fallen down the pecking order. Mikel Arteta has now decided that he wants a changing of the guard at right-back and is willing to cash in.
Bellerin earns £110,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium and getting that away from the wage budget would help sign a replacement.
Arsenal must do whatever it takes to offload Bellerin
Arsenal have to stop settling for mediocre players and Bellerin perhaps hasn’t progressed at the rate he initially promised.
With that in mind, Arteta must do whatever it takes to get him off the books and get a replacement in before the season starts.
Arsenal finished eighth last season and that won’t do during 2021/22. He must progress the team and in order to do that he’ll need better players.
Football London claims that Arteta wants a replacement for Bellerin this summer.
The Gunners have been linked with several right-backs. The hope will be that Marotta is simply being respectable and that his club will make their move soon.
