Arsenal transfer: Gunners youngster reportedly set to sign for Scottish outfit
Ross County are set to complete the signing of Arsenal talent Harry Clarke, according to the Daily Record.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan in League Two with Oldham Athletic. He played 35 games, scoring once and claiming one assist.
He has also taken part in pre-season training with the first team and featured in a friendly against Hibernian.
Now, he looks set to embark on a spell in Scotland as Malky Mackay looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
Clarke has lots of experience playing youth team football and is now looking to make the step up.
The Staggies will play in the Scottish Premiership next season and that makes the loan move an eye-catching one for the young Arsenal starlet.
The ball-playing centre-back is highly-rated at the Emirates Stadium. Big things are expected of him and he’ll hope to impress during his loan spell.
It’s actually unsure at this stage whether the deal will be a loan, or whether he will sign permanently.
Although he is fancied by the staff at Arsenal, the fact he’s yet to make a first-team appearance at 20 is probably a cause for concern.
A move to Ross County looks attractive. He will have several big games to look forward to, not least the clashes with Rangers and Celtic.
Decision time for Arsenal over Clarke
The defender needs regular football. It seems obvious he won’t get that at Arsenal and heading to Scotland makes sense.
As a youngster, the player could really thrive north of the border and it’ll be a real chance to continue his development.
His time at Arsenal could be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean he can’t enjoy a successful career.
If he does move permanently the challenge for Clarke will be to prove to his doubters that he can play and continue making waves wherever he plays.
Should it be a loan, he will have the opportunity to show Mikel Arteta exactly what he is capable of ahead of next season.
