Arsenal transfer: Gunners linked 22-year-old names Sergio Ramos as idol

Arsenal could be preparing a swoop to sign defender Mert Muldur. The 22-year-old is currently with Sassuolo and played for Turkey at Euro 2020.

It is claimed that the Gunners have been monitoring the youngster for over a year. He is now under consideration as someone who can fill the full-back positions.

Muldur was born in Austria but chose to represent the country where both of his parents were born. He played twice for Turkey at this summer’s European Championships as they finished bottom of Group A.

The talented international has been around the block. He started out as a striker but was quickly turned into a centre-back. These days, he’s a burgeoning talent who operates at full-back.

It seems as though he’s identified a pretty steady idol too. Speaking to Turkish outlet Bi’Soru Bi’Cevap, via The Athletic, he named Sergio Ramos as someone he looks up to.

He said: “I am a fast player and I love to play with the ball. My idol right now is Sergio Ramos. He is a complete player with all the features I love: control over aerial balls, strength and ability to play forward from the defence.”

Future star: Muldur could be perfect for Arsenal

This signing could be an attractive one for the Gunners to consider during the summer transfer window.

A bigger name right-back could be added, although more than one may well be sought.

Hector Bellerin is set to leave the Emirates Stadium, whilst Cedric isn’t really deemed as a long-term option.

The fact that Muldur played left-back at Euro 2020 could also make him a decent backup for Kieran Tierney on the opposite side.

He played 28 games for Sassuolo last season and is clearly keen to develop his skills. The fact he can operate in a number of positions makes him an ideal signing for the Gunners.

Having the Real Madrid legend as a role model certainly won’t do him any harm and Muldur could prove to be an exciting addition to the Arsenal ranks.
