Arsenal transfer: Gunners close to securing first summer signing
Arsenal are now close to completing their first summer signing, with A Bola, via Sport Witness, claiming Nuno Tavares is set to sign.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed a deal is close.
The Gunners are set to beat off a host of rivals for his signature. Napoli, Southampton and Brighton have all been monitoring the left-back.
Tavares looks like a decent signing. At 21 he is a burgeoning talent and a player who could seriously improve in the future.
Last season he made 25 appearances for Benfica, registering three assists. He played most of his football at left-back but can also operate further forward.
The report claims that Arsenal are set to pay £8 million for the player. A fee of £6 million will be paid upfront, with
It would appear that the Gunners are set to kick-start their recruitment drive. They’ve been linked with several players this summer, but have so far been unable to get anything over the line.
Ben White, Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma have also been heavily linked with Arsenal this summer.
The team needs strengthening and Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a strong start to the campaign. Eighth place won’t be good enough next season and he has to get the team back into Europe.
Tavares could star for Arsenal
This looks very much like a stereotypical Gunners recruit. For years the club has signed players with potential and given them the platform to play first-team football.
Tavares is quick, fits the mould of a modern-day full-back and is capable of weighing in with assists from the left-hand side.
Tierney will remain the established left-back at the Emirates Stadium. Having Tavares will give him quality in reserve and this could be a coup by the club.
