Arsenal transfer: Florentino Perez drops hint over reported Gunners target
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has suggested during an interview with Spanish radio station Onda Cero that Arsenal target Martin Odegaard could leave.
The Norwegian spent the second half of last season on loan with the Gunners. He made 20 appearances and found the net twice.
It is claimed that Odegaard is Mikel Arteta’s number one target. The Spaniard is keen to bring him back to the club after a solid loan spell.
Carlo Ancelotti has returned to Madrid this summer. There has been some talk that his return could hand Odegaard a chance to shine.
Perez has suggested that might not be the case though. He name checked three players when it came to discussing potential outgoings this summer.
He told Onda Cero: “We have 35 players and can only register 25…Ceballos, Kubo, Odegaard, we can’t fit them all in.
“We’re talking with players and their agents. We have a lot of young players, if they can’t develop here they can go on loan and come back.”
Odegaard has made just 11 appearances for the first team at the Bernabeu, failing to find the net. He also spent a season on loan with Real Sociedad, scoring seven goals and claiming nine assists.
Future star: Should Arsenal now move for Odegaard?
Could this be the green light that Arsenal need to finally step up their efforts to sign a player Arteta dearly wants?
Of the three players mentioned, the Norway captain is probably one they’d want to try and shift.
He earns £85,000-a-week and that is considerably more than what Ceballos and Kubo collect in the Spanish capital.
Arsenal are in desperate need of some creative reinforcements and having Odegaard on board would be a statement of intent.
With a full pre-season he could thrive at Arsenal and he has the potential to really flourish at the club.
These comments from Perez offer hope and the club now has to act and place a serious bid for his services.
