Arsenal transfer: Arteta eyes move for Real Madrid sensation
Arsenal are monitoring Real Madrid defender Miguel Gutierrez, according to The Athletic. The 19-year-old academy graduate has been with Los Blancos since 2011.
The Gunners are in the market for some new players this summer. A backup for Kieran Tierney is something Mikel Arteta has been keen to add for a while.
Gutierrez has a release clause of £34 million in his contract. He is deemed as one of the most talented youngsters in Madrid’s squad.
The young Spaniard made his first-team debut in April. He went onto make five additional appearances before the end of the season, with Zinedine Zidane proving a big fan.
After a 4-1 win over Granada last season, he called the Spaniard ‘phenomenal’ after filling in at left-back. He entrusted the youngster with more appearances and proved a big fan of the youngster.
There are some blockers ahead of him in the quest for regular football, however, Marcelo will stay at the Bernabeu for the final year of his contract, whilst Ferland Mendy is also ahead of him.
Interestingly, Gutierrez is on the books of Wasserman. The agency also represents Arteta and that could give Arsenal an advantage in the race to sign him.
Madrid declined several loan advances for the player last season. That might not be quite so straightforward this summer, however, with the 10-cap Spain under-19 star holding a desire to play football.
Gutierrez to Arsenal: Gunners have to pounce on youngster
Arsenal have a smashing left-back in Tierney, but another option in that position would certainly be helpful. The Scotland international has a less than impressive injury record and the Gunners must be prepared.
Gutierrez has bags of potential and Arsenal could secure a really astute signing ahead of his best years. The fact he’s down the pecking order at Real Madrid could also help massively.
He may not come cheap but Arsenal would be making a sound investment in the future. With no European football on the table next season, they might not be in a position to sign a left-back who is established.
With Tierney at the club too, whoever comes in is unlikely to start on a regular basis in the short-term. As a result, signing Gutierrez makes perfect sense and Arsenal need to act quickly.
