Report: Arsenal and Tottenham to battle for £40m-rated Champions League star

Marcel Sabitzer was the man who almost single-handedly sent Spurs spiralling out of Europe last night.

Tottenham and Arsenal are preparing to battle for Red Bull Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer during the summer transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The right-winger was in fine form last night as the Bundesliga title hopefuls beat Tottenham 3-0 at the Red Bull Arena.

He scored twice during the contest to take his tally for the season to 15 and is now catching the eye.

Sabitzer also has eight assists to his name and he has captained the team on occasions too, highlighting his tremendous leadership qualities.

The 25-year-old signed for the German outfit from Rapid Vienna and helped Leipzig to promotion into the top-flight.

Sabitzer has 115 caps for Austria, scoring 37 goals and registering 29 assists.

He also boasts tremendous versatility and this season alone he has played on the right-wing, as a No.10 and in central midfield.

The report suggests that £4o million would be required in order to prise him away from the Red Bull Arena.

Spurs had no answer to his brilliance last night and it’s no surprise that they are now monitoring his situation.

Arsenal are short of quality in wide areas and Mikel Arteta’s interest does make some sense.

Champions League football could be key for either team looking to land his signature during the summer.

Given Tottenham’s injury problems at the moment, their hopes of a top-four finish look slim at best.

Arsenal are even further back than Spurs in the league and would need a tremendous run to even contemplate gatecrashing the top-four.

Sabitzer would be quality in either team and it remains to be seen whether either club comes forward with concrete interest.
