Phil Foden may well be the best player in the Premier League right now.
The Manchester City midfielder is in red hot form at the moment, and after tearing Manchester United apart at the weekend, he’s earning all sorts of plaudits.
However, according to Jermaine Pennant, speaking on Hawksbee and Jacobs Daily, the Manchester City man isn’t yet in that world-class category.
Pennant says that Foden is a top player, but he’s not world-class due to the fact he’s not done it on the big occasions for England.
Interestingly, during this discussion, Pennant directly compared Foden to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, claiming that the Arsenal ace is playing just as well as Foden right now.

Bukayo Saka is playing just as well as Foden
“Is Foden world-class?” Pennant was asked.
“Not now, it’s the same kind of situation with Saka, is he world-class now? He’s doing it with all the same stats, he’s playing just as well as Foden, but if he continues on this trajectory then yes, he will be a world-class player. But we need to see it on the big occasions, the Euros and the World Cup’s playing for England,” Pennant said.
Both brilliant
Whether or not you think Foden has been better than Saka is up for debate, but one thing that is for sure is that both players have been unbelievable as of late.
Saka has been electric as of late, and while his great goalscoring run came to an end against Sheffield United, his recent form has been unreal.
Meanwhile, Foden may be playing the best football of his career, and he just dominated, yet another, Manchester derby.
We can’t understand why there’s any debate around these two players being world-class at the moment.
