As Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad enjoy a warm weather training camp in Dubai, fans will hope plans to add a striker in January are gathering pace.

Arsenal’s finishing has been way below par in three consecutive defeats, ones that have harmed their chances of silverware this season.

Now sat fourth in the Premier League, Arsenal will have to recover a five point gap to Liverpool or win the Champions League to avoid a trophyless season.

And whilst there’s still reason to believe this current Arsenal squad can turn things around, they could definitely do with a boost.

That being said, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side have now been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Although it’s one that may wait until the summer, Isak’s performance against Manchester City yesterday proved exactly why The Gunners are interested in the £63m man.

Speaking via Hayter’s TV after Newcastle’s late 3-2 loss – one that didn’t help Arsenal, manager Eddie Howe was full of compliments for Isak.

Alexander Isak could be the perfect striker for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta this summer

A player he would definitely prefer to keep at the club, Howe said Isak had everything in his game.

He said: “Yeah Alex is an outstanding individual, his goal today was of the highest level.

“When he had his energy I thought his overall performance was outstanding and I thought he was a constant menace for them.

“He showed his ability to run, he showed his ability to link play, he showed his ability to finish.

“I’m just disappointed for him that we couldn’t get him into more dangerous situations in that second half as I’m sure he could have made the difference for us.”

Of course, that is perhaps where Arsenal could convince Isak to join them if they progressed with their interest.

Mikel Arteta is able to guarantee a striker plenty of chances at Arsenal, even if their creativity has dipped off at times this year.

The likes of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka are still a joy to play alongside.

And in Alexander Isak, Arsenal could have a player who could rival the goalscoring of Erling Haaland or Mohamed Salah.

Despite his injury issues this season, Isak now has 10 Premier League goals in 16 games, which puts him far clear of any Arsenal player.

That being said, Arsenal have now reached a dead end with one of their other January targets.
