Arsenal are reportedly planning to offer Charlie Patino a new contract to ward off interest from Barcelona.

The 17-year-old midfielder is one of many academy talents tipped for stardom in the coming years.

Patino has apparently impressed coaches and senior players alike with his efforts in training and on the pitch.

Football.london, addressing rumours claiming Barca are eyeing the Hale End Gem, claim Arsenal have no intention of letting him go.

In addition, they are reportedly looking to offer Patino a professional contract in October, when he turns 18.

Furthermore, Mikel Arteta will name him in the Arsenal first-team for the League Cup tie with AFC Wimbledon, football.london added.

Known for his technical ability and agility in midfield, Patino has often played for higher age groups.

As a 14-year-old, he captained England’s Under-16s against Spain and made his debut for Arsenal’s Under-18s against Chelsea.

Last season, Patino earned promotion to the Under-23s – quite a feat considering his age – and made four appearances.

This season, he’s featuring regularly for the Under-23 and training alongside the first team on occasion.

Some Arsenal fans have compared Patino to Cesc Fabregas:
