Arsenal tipped to appoint Klopp-approved boss if ‘Arteta doesn’t do well’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta continues to split opinion at the Emirates Stadium.

Since the 39-year-old took the Gunners reins in 2019, the club remains in transition.

Arteta came under criticism last season after failing to secure European competition this term.

Arsenal spent a lot of money bolstering their ranks in the summer, bringing in talented young players.

Following a poor start to the season, the Gunners embarked on a 10-match unbeaten run.

However, three defeats from four Premier League games have set alarm bells ringing at Arsenal once again.

Former Ajax coach Aad de Mos has now tipped Erik ten Hag to be a good fit at Arsenal “if Arteta doesn’t do well”.

Ten Hag currently manages the Amsterdam giants and is highly rated amongst his peers.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has sung the 51-year-old’s praises in the past.

“Erik is rightly regarded as one of the most exciting coaching talents in world football at the moment because of the work he does with Ajax,” Klopp said in December 2020, via Planet Football.

Could Ten Hag choose “Arsenal, if Arteta doesn’t do well”?

De Mos believes there are only a handful of clubs who would suit Ten Haag, and Arsenal is amongst those.

“It has to be purely attacking anyway, so the DNA of Ajax has to be in it,” the 74-year-old told Algemeen Dagblad, as transcribed by Voetbal Primeur.

“I think Borussia Dortmund is the ideal option for him. Far from their goal, and it’s not going well right now.

“They have young players, and he can bring a few from Ajax.

“In that period, they are also going to make another step. That would be ideal.

“If Nagelsmann leaves, then it’s Bayern Munich.

“At FC Barcelona, Xavi is only just starting; Arsenal, if Arteta doesn’t do well.

“Then we’ll be sold out soon. Atalanta is still possible, based on the soccer they play.”
