Reported Arsenal target who plays with Messi is perfect to replace £100k-a-week castaway - TBR View
Hector Bellerin is expected to leave Arsenal this summer, and FC Barcelona star Sergino Dest is emerging as a potential target to replace the Spanish ace.
According to Sport, the La Liga giants are open to selling Dest this summer. Barcelona have over €200m they need to clear off the wage bill. And nobody is safe from the chop this window.
Indeed, it seems crazy to suggest that Dest, who joined the club last year and impressed alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Pedri, will be allowed to walk this summer.
Yet that just speaks volumes as to how dire a situation Barcelona find themselves in. However, Arsenal could stand to profit from the Catalan side’s financial crisis.
Dest is perfect for Arsenal
The Gunners are keen on signing a new right-back, with the £100,000-a-week Bellerin expected to depart after over ten years with the north London side. And Dest could be a perfect option for Arsenal.
The 20-year-old right-back is one of the highest-rated young defenders in world football.
At such a young age, Dest is already a full international with the US. As well as a fullback who has competed in the UEFA Champions League with both Barcelona and former side Ajax.
Indeed, Dest is also quite a decorated player.
Gunners can’t allow Barcelona star to slip through their fingers
The defender won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona last season. the youngster also won the Johan Cruyff Shield and Talent of the Year award with Ajax in the 2019/20 campaign.
Dest’s playing style also suits what Arteta is looking for in his fullbacks. The American loves to bomb forward and take the ball deep into the opponent’s half to start attacks. In his first season with Barcelona, the youngster scored three goals, an impressive number for a right-back.
At just 20, Dest has already established himself as one of the top fullbacks in world football.
And if Barcelona are looking to sell, Arsenal have to flex their financial muscle more than ever for the American, who could make the right-back position his own for the Gunners for years to come.
