Report: 'Outstanding' PL player now expected to leave, just a week after claims Arsenal could pay £30m to sign him

Aston Villa midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, is expected to leave the club and not sign a new deal, according to a report from The Athletic.

Chukwuemeka is one of the only Villa youngsters to not sign a new deal with the club. He is attracting interest from a host of clubs, with the Athletic listing AC Milan and Barcelona among his admirers. Of course, it was only a week back that journalist Graeme Bailey claimed Arsenal might even be willing to pay £30m for him.

The Athletic reports that Villa want around £20m if they’re to sell the teenager right now. That price is seen a big one for onlooking clubs, who know they can sign Chukwuemeka for just £400k next summer. Villa, of course, do not want to go down that route and lose their man for next to nothing.

Labelled an ‘outstanding‘ talent by former Villan Paul Merson, Chukwuemeka has also been part of the England under-19 side which helped itself to glory in Slovakia. However, he was left out of the pre-season tour this summer, with Steven Gerrard admitting he wants players who are fully committed to next season in his squad.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Should Try Their Best For Chukwuemeka

While the £20m fee might sound a lot, Arsenal might have to think long-term here and bite the bullet before other clubs come wading in next summer with huge contract offers.

Chukwuemeka should, in theory, go on to become a top PL midfielder. Those players, of course, carry a big price tag with them and £20m now – while seeming a lot – might prove to be a bargain.

It’s a shame for Villa fans but Arsenal, who are already building a young squad with serious potential, could be an ideal destination for Chukwuemeka.
