Arsenal’s hopes of signing Alexander Isak are all but over after the Sweden striker penned a new contract with Spanish outfit, Real Sociedad.
Isak was reportedly on the list of players drawn up by Mikel Arteta and Edu for this summer. The Athletic claimed just a few weeks back that the Gunners were even willing to meet Isak’s apparent £59m release-clause.

But any hopes Arsenal had of landing the striker appear to be over. Isak has put pen to paper on a new deal with Sociedad, extending his stay in La Liga until 2026.
Interestingly, The Daily Mail has claimed Sociedad have also bought out a £30m buy-back clause that Dortmund had. That suggests the Spanish side are potentially open to a big money sale of Isak.
Exciting prospect
Isak has been one of the standout performers of Euro 2020, as Sweden have also took the tournament by storm. Despite not getting on the scoresheet, Isak has contributed two assists to go with his fine individual displays.
At just 21, the young forward appears to have the world at his feet.
A future move away from Sociedad seems nailed on at the moment. In a way, it’s a smart move by the Spanish outfit to buy that £30m clause out.
Premier League promise?
It would be no surprise to see Isak wind up in the Premier League in the coming years. If he continues to develop like he is and can score the goals in La Liga, then the big boys will come knocking.
Arsenal were right to sound Isak out this summer. But it looks like they’ve missed out for now.
Isak’s time in England will come, though. Whether that is with Arsenal or elsewhere, remains to be seen.
