Takehiro Tomiyasu’s impressive stats in Arsenal 3-0 win over Southampton

Arsenal got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had lost three of their last four in the Premier League and were especially disappointing on Monday night.

And Arsenal certainly began slowly against Saints, to put it mildly.

Aaron Ramsdale had to keep out efforts from Nathan Tella, Adam Armstrong and James Ward-Prowse early on.

However, the Gunners weathered the storm and broke the deadlock on 21 minutes.

Alexandre Lacazette fired an emphatic first-time finish into the top corner after a strong run from Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal then doubled their lead six minutes later through Martin Odegaard’s header.

And just after the hour, Gabriel Magalhaes beat Willy Caballero to Gabriel Martinelli’s corner to make it 3-0.

While Arsenal’s results have been up-and-down this season, one player has remained largely consistent.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is proving to be one of the best Gunners signings in recent years.

The 23-year-old cost Arsenal a reported £16million in the summer’s transfer deadline day.

And what a signing he’s been, hitting the ground running and cementing his place in the XI.

Tomiyasu was one of the few who looked switched on in the early stages, and got better as the game went on.

He was involved in both the opening two goals, could’ve had one of his own, linked up well with Saka and was defensively solid.

Tomiyasu’s stats – as per Whoscored – make for some impressive reading.

The Japan international took 87 touches of the ball, won four aerial challenges, made one key pass and had two efforts, one on target.

Tomiyasu also delivered two accurate crosses and three accurate long balls.

Mikel Arteta and Edu will surely be jumping for joy at how good Tomiyasu is and how little he cost.

He has all the credentials to become a key Arsenal player for years to come.
