Shkodran Mustafi reportedly decided to reject a new contract at Arsenal in the summer despite his current deal expiring next summer, informing the Gunners he wants to leave – and Arsenal supporters have responded on Twitter.
Mustafi, 28, managed just first his appearance of the 2020-21 campaign on Sunday night as the Gunners suffered a 1-0 loss to Leicester City. The Germany international replaced David Luiz just after half-time, after the Brazilian picked up an injury.
A £35million (FL) signing from Valencia in the summer of 2016, Mustafi has clocked up 143 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners. But he has fallen down the pecking order at The Emirates, especially after the signing of Gabriel.

Now, Football London have claimed that Arsenal offered Mustafi an extension in the summer – to increase Mustafi’s stay in north London beyond the summer of 2021. However, Mustafi apparently rejected a deal, stating he wants to leave.
It is believed that Mustafi wants a move to Italy to be closer to his wife’s Swiss-based family. Certainly, he now looks destined for the exit door with numerous Italian sides likely to be interested in the ex-Everton star on a free transfer.
Many Arsenal supporters reacted on Twitter to the news that Mustafi could leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season, and the majority have questioned why an offer was made to Mustafi in the first place.
