Arsenal summer target Cesare Casadei scored 40-yard goal on Tuesday

Arsenal fans may be wondering what might have been after reported summer target Cesare Casadei scored a stunning goal from 40-yards for Chelsea’s under-21s on Tuesday.

Casadei moved to Chelsea in a £12 million deal this past summer. The Blues have stepped up their pursuits of a number of younger players under their new owners.

But they were not the only Premier League side keen on the 19-year-old.

In fact, La Repubblica claimed at one stage that Arsenal had made an enquiry for the teenager. It was suggested that the Gunners were crazy about the midfielder, who, at that time, played for Inter Milan.

Ultimately, it was Chelsea who signed the youngster.

He is still awaiting the chance to make his first-team debut. But he is certainly making an impact for the club’s under-21s, scoring three goals in seven before their Papa John’s Trophy clash with Peterborough on Tuesday.

He now has a fourth goal to his name. And it was an absolute screamer, with Casadei setting off on a run just inside the Peterborough half.

He lets fly from around 40 yards. And the strike certainly flies, finding its way into the top corner after swerving quite wickedly on its way.

Unsurprisingly, the goalkeeper got nowhere near the attempt. And a considerable gasp can be heard from the crowd as the ball settles across the goal line.

Obviously, Arsenal fans will have few complaints with the business they did in the summer. They sit top of the table. And their midfield has been outstanding so far.

However, it does appear that Chelsea have uncovered a real gem in Casadei. Had the Gunners got him also, it would have clearly been a major coup for Mikel Arteta’s men.
