Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has expressed his gratitude at becoming a regular starter at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners summer signing was speaking to AS after he made his competitive debut for Spain on Thursday night.

Raya played the full 90 minutes as La Roja ran out 3-1 winners in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus in Limassol.

Spain had already clinched qualification to the finals of the tournament. What that in mind, head coach Luis de la Fuente opted to shuffle his pack.

Raya, who had made two friendly appearances for his nation prior to Thursday night’s game, delivered a decent enough performance for the 2010 World Cup winners.

After the game, the Spanish media asked the Arsenal keeper how it felt to be starting for both the Gunners and the Red Fury.

“It is a privilege to be a starter at Arsenal and come here,” said Raya. “It is a gift that the coach has given me. Happy and grateful.”

He continued: “You live 100 percent, I train to the maximum and I was here today to help.

“Coming here is a privilege and a dream. For me it is a dream come true. It is my debut in a qualifier. Grateful.”

Big season ahead for Raya for Arsenal and for Spain

Thursday night marked another exciting milestone in Raya‘s career, his second in just a few months.

In summer, Arsenal signed the 28-year-old on a £3million loan from Brentford, with a £27million option to buy.

This came after a very fruitful stint in West London. Raya became one of the Premier League’s most promising and sought-after keepers.

With his first competitive cap now under his belt, Raya will look to help Arsenal flourish in the league and push for a spot at Euro 2024 with La Roja.
