Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has waxed lyrical about Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish as the two prepare to potentially link up for England over the next seven days.

Just last weekend, the Gunners man and the Villa ace were on opposing sides, with wildly contrasting individual displays and team performances.

Arsenal were beaten 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium, and while Saka suffered a rare off day complete with an unfortunate own goal, Grealish delivered a masterclass.

The Premier League is now on ice as international action takes centre stage, with England taking on the Republic of Ireland in a friendly before Nations League clashes with Belgium and Iceland.

And Saka is happy to be playing alongside Grealish instead of against him over the next week, paying tribute to the Villa man’s class in training and on the pitch.

“He’s a top player,” Saka is quoted by The Mirror as saying. “When I came here the first time he was the player who impressed me the most in training.

“Before we played against Villa at the weekend we analysed him and picked him out as one of their main threats and he showed it in the game.

“He was amazing from start to finish, so it’s going to be good to play with him and not against him this week.”

TBR View:

Both Saka and Grealish are superb players and it’s great to see one professional pay homage to another, even admitting he’s glad not to be up against him this week as they prepare to represent their country.

Arsenal have been impressive this season, with some good performances and a much-improved team, but there’s still work to be done, as the defeat to the West Midlanders showed.

Villa, meanwhile, have dazzled so far this term, having thrashed both the Premier League champions and the FA Cup winners, though defeats to Leeds and Southampton will have rankled.

Both Arsenal and Villa have what it takes to enjoy impressive seasons, and hopefully there’ll be joy on the Three Lions front too over the coming months and next summer.
