National media react to Arsenal warrior's display after their huge World Cup win yesterday
Arsenal star Thomas Partey stole the show yesterday as Ghana beat South Korea at the World Cup. Now, the Black Stars face Uruguay with the winners set to secure a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
Partey had just started to get his season going for Arsenal before the World Cup. He started the eight games before the break and had begun to showcase his class.
Mikel Arteta rates him highly and he was missed when being forced to sit out for four games with a thigh problem. Now, however, he’s quickly re-established himself and he’s also scored brilliant goals against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.
Partey has made just 74 appearances for the Gunners since arriving. He’s struggled with some injury problems since joining from Atletico Madrid.
Now, he’s showcasing his class though. Alongside Granit Xhaka in the Arsenal engine room, they’ve both played their part in helping the Gunners reach the summit of the Premier League.
After the World Cup, a title challenge could ensue. It would be a big ask to pip Pep Guardiola’s team to the crown but they’re firmly in the mix,
First, he has tournament glory in his sights with Ghana. If they defeat Uruguay they will head through to the knockout stages and that would represent a really big step.
National media praises Arsenal star Partey for improved World Cup performance
Some statistics from Who Scored showcase that Partey had a good game. He made six clearances and won four headers as he protected the back four in a neat and tidy fashion.
The national media were impressed too. They gave Partey a 5/10 but despite a pretty low rating, they paid him some nice words in describing his display.
Pulse Sports wrote: “The Arsenal midfielder had a more stable game than the last one against Portugal. Partey inserted himself more in Ghana’s play today and tidied up for the back four a lot of times.
The 29-year-old can take a lot of heart from this latest performance. With one more big push against Uruguay to come, Ghana will fancy taking a place in the last 16 of the World Cup.
