Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has sent a message on Twitter insisting that football is fairly irrelevant right now, as the Premier League took the decision to suspended all games until early April due to the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Gunners confirmed on Thursday evening that their manager Mikel Arteta had tested positive for coronavirus and would under-take a period of self-isolation in line with Government health guidelines.
The Premier League confirmed on Friday that a unanimous decision was reached to suspend top-flight games with the intention of returning on 4 April, but that is subject to medical advice at the time.
The Premier League collectively agreed with the FA, EFL and WSL to postpone the professional game for the meantime.
Arsenal’s Ozil took to social media to stress the importance of health over football and paid tribute to doctors, nurses and scientists worldwide.
TBR’s View – Can break help Arsenal on the pitch?
Everyone in football will be wishing good health to Arteta and anyone else impacted by coronavirus, plus will be hoping that action can return next month after a necessary halt to action.
Arsenal do currently sit ninth in the Premier League table and aren’t out of reach for a top four finish, but a break may have come at an unfortunate time as they were starting to pick up some momentum.
The North London club may have been dumped out of the Europa League by Olympiacos, but have won their last three consecutive matches in the league and have improved under Arteta.
They are eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with a game in hand and a strong finish to the season should seem them continue to rise up the table.
