Arsenal star Mesut Ozil’s comments that is “heart beats” for Real Madrid in 2017 have resurfaced in an article published by Spanish newspaper Marca this week – and Madrid supporters have reacted on Twitter.

Ozil, 31, could be about to leave Arsenal this summer as the German playmaker enters the final 12 months of his contract with the Gunners. A move to Turkey could be on the cards for the ex-Schalke and Werder Bremen midfielder.

Indeed, many Arsenal fans are becoming disillusioned with the playmaker given his enormous wages at the club – and his inability to match the form that those wages would suggest. Joe Willock and Emile Smith-Rowe are impressing in his shadow.

Speaking to Bild three years ago in 2017, after leaving Real Madrid for Arsenal in the summer of 2013, Ozil stated that Real are still in his heart – after starring for the Spanish giants, scoring 27 goals and laying on an enormous 80 assists in 159 games.

“It’s not a secret. My heart beats for Real Madrid. I played Real Madrid and until today I still have a lot of friends in the first team and in the club,” Ozil said to German publication Bild.

Ozil has since played 254 times for Arsenal, but his form is nowhere near the kind of standard he produced at the Santiago Bernabeu. Ozil is still three assists short of the 80 he notched in Madrid, despite playing 95 more matches.

His quotes form 2017 re-emerged in an article posted by Marca this week and Madrid supporters reacted to those comments, with many desperate to see him return to Zinedine Zidane’s side.
