Kieran Tierney has been labelled ‘brilliant’ and ‘excellent’ by Scotland’s media after the Arsenal star impressed in a 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands.
Stevie Clarke’s men came into the match as strong favourites, in need of a crucial three points as they close in on qualification for the 2022 World Cup.
They have placed one hand on achieving that. Thanks to Lyndon Dykes’ late goal – bundling home an effort after a brilliant cross from Nathan Patterson.
It was a struggling performance from Scotland. Such is the expectation they have placed on themselves after a brilliant couple of years under Clarke.

On the left, Tierney combined with Liverpool’s Andy Robertson – but it was the £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) Gunners man that got more joy.
The Scotsman gave their verdict on Tierney. Rating him at 7/10 and labelling his performance as both ‘brilliant’ and ‘excellent’ as Scotland won.
“Brilliant intervention to stop an almost certain goal after a great cross. Excellent passes out of defence, especially to get Scotland in behind.”
Tierney shines for Scotland: Arsenal star close to his best form

Tierney is finally settled at Arsenal. He is easily first choice in the side, after a solid campaign last season in which he was one of a few shining lights.
The Gunners have improved this season and now have an identity – and Tierney is pivotal to that. Standards are improving.
Tierney’s form at club level was evident on Tuesday, looking confident and willing to take a few risks to find Scotland’s attackers.
A brilliant win, and it looks as if Tierney and Scotland will now have a chance to compete for a World Cup place – in the play-offs.
