Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta left Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out of the squad yet again in the game against Sunderland last night.

The Gabon star was stripped of his captaincy after a supposed disciplinary breach. He has been away from the squad since, and Arteta’s reluctance to say anything every time he is asked about Aubameyang is visible for everyone to see.

A lot of the season is still left to be played and many Arsenal fans think there’s a chance that Aubameyang could be brought back into the side, especially if he changes his ways and wins Arteta’s trust again.

However, we believe his chances of a return took a huge hit last night.

Eddie Nketiah may have ended Aubameyang’s Arsenal career

Arsenal smashed five past Sunderland in the Carabao Cup last night and Nketiah was the star of the show. The Englishman scored a fantastic hat-trick and showed his worth to Arteta and Gunners fans.

Nketiah started up front for the Gunners last night, a position that belonged to Aubameyang when he was on good terms with Arteta. The ex-Arsenal skipper also played on the left wing at times – that role has also been taken over by the young Englishman, who has played there when he has come off the bench recently.

Nketiah’s fantastic form and the fact that Arsenal have won every single game since getting rid of Aubameyang means that the Gunners don’t need him anymore. That is a huge blow to the Gabon star’s comeback hopes, and his Arsenal career may just have come to an end now.

Nketiah to replace Aubameyang?

Although it was only against Sunderland, Nketiah showed his quality in front of goal. He got himself in the right areas and his finishing, especially for the second and third goals, was absolutely phenomenal.

Arteta claimed after the game that he really wants Nketiah to stay at Arsenal. The Englishman’s only demand is regular game time, which has been hard to come by. However, that could change in a few months time.

With the way things are at the moment, it doesn’t look like Arteta wants anything to do with Aubameyang. The Gabon star may well receive the Mesut Ozil treatment until he agrees to leave, which opens a spot in the squad. To add to that, Alexandre Lacazette is also expected to leave in the summer, which gives Nketiah an even bigger boost.

It is unlikely that the Englishman will sign a new deal anytime soon, but Arteta’s convincing skills since his arrival at Arsenal has been really good, and it won’t be a surprise to see him persuade the 22-year-old forward to stay as well.
