Four members of Arsenal’s under-23 team have been training with the first-team ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League game against Standard Liege.
According to Football London, Tyreece John-Jules, Robbie Burton, Zech Medley and James Olayinka were all involved in the latest training session.
The quartet were seen wearing navy training gear as opposed to the yellow tops that are usually donned by the club’s under-23 ranks.
There is no saying that any of the impressive four will play tomorrow. With the injuries stacking up, however, boss Freddie Ljungberg is unlikely to take any chances ahead of Manchester City away on Sunday.
Granit Xhaka, Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney, Shkodran Mustafi, Rob Holding, Dani Ceballos and Hector Bellerin are all out of tomorrow’s game.
Arsenal need just a point to progress from Group F and into the last 32. With the club’s league form not in the best of health, Ljungberg might choose to play a youthful-looking team in Belgium.
Midfielder Burton has knocked on the Arsenal door before. He was an unused substitute against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.
Medley has made three first-team appearances but John-Jules and Olayinka are unknown quantities.
It would be a bit of gamble for the Gunners to throw the young lads into action in an important game.
With injuries mounting it seems likely that one or two of them might earn a place on the bench tomorrow night.
If things go according to plan, Ljungberg may choose to hand game time out to the youngsters which can only bode well.
Arsenal has a proud history of allowing young talent a pathway to the first-team and these four could be the latest to make their mark on the senior squad.
