Arsenal staff have been so impressed by how 24-year-old covers ground in games

The Arsenal coaches have been so impressed by one aspect of Kai Havertz’s game which may perhaps go largely unnoticed by many of us.

It has to be said that Kai Havertz is playing extremely well right now. Obviously, Arsenal took a big risk when they decided to sign the German off the back of a turbulent spell at Chelsea.

He arrived with it not exactly clear what his best role was. And that debate has continued for much of this season. Havertz has impressed up front without being the clinical goalscorer the Gunners would like. Meanwhile, he has also had bright moments as a number eight.

It still feels too soon to say whether Havertz has now turned a corner at the Emirates. But there is no question that talk over whether Arsenal made the right decision signing the 24-year-old has largely gone away.

Having Leandro Trossard up front appears to have helped bring the best out of Havertz. The pair are so clever with their movement. And they both like to occupy positions which opponents do not like to go to, with neither really suited to playing as a natural number nine.

It seems that Havertz has won a lot of admirers behind the scenes at Arsenal. According to a report from The Telegraph, the club’s staff have been really impressed by how he covers ground.

Still plenty to prove

Havertz still arguably has plenty to prove before he justifies the fee Arsenal paid for him – as much as he has absolutely no say in what the Gunners spent on him.

His return of five goals in 24 league games is a little underwhelming. There were two months between his goal against Burnley at the weekend and his previous strike.

But clearly, there is a lot more to Havertz’s game than just how many times he puts the ball into the back of the net.
