The Telegraph report that the Arsenal dressing room fears that top scorer Alexis Sanchez wants to leave the club. His latest tantrum was noticeable on the Vitality Stadium pitch as he stormed off after the final whistle, but according to the report, his bad mood continued into the dressing room and he ignored his team-mates. This latest development has left many of his team-mates convinced that the Chilean won’t agree to a new deal, no matter how much money is offered to him. He has only 18 months left on his contract and there are a number of clubs monitoring his situation.
It would be a huge blow to lose Sanchez, but no one player is bigger than the club and Arsenal need to ensure that they have plans in place if the Chilean does opt to force a move away from the capital. Chelsea and Manchester City are believed to be interested, but Arsenal fans would prefer that Sanchez left England if he doesn’t stay at Arsenal. It is a crucial few months for the club as a number of key figures at the club have uncertain futures. They need to make sure that those at the club want to be there and if Sanchez doesn’t, they should let him go.
Arsenal have yet another injury to contend with as the Guardian report that Francis Coquelin is set to miss the next four weeks due to a hamstring injury. He contracted the problem during the club’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth and will be unavailable for the coming weeks. This provides a problem for Wenger as he is already without Santi Cazorla in the middle of the park. He has been left with Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey, none of whom have convinced this season.
There will be many that want Wenger to enter the transfer market for another central midfielder, a player that is similar in style to Santi Cazorla. Although this injury limits his options further, it is unlikely that Arsenal will make any major moves in central midfield this month. Wenger will believe he has enough to get him through until the end of the season and the prices in January make it an unattractive window to by in unless absolutely necessary. Coquelin will be a miss for Arsenal as he provides battling qualities to the midfield, but the Gunners should be able to cope.
One position that is being looked at by Arsene Wenger is left back and the Daily Star report that Ricardo Pereira could be the latest player being targeted. The FC Porto full back is currently on loan with OGC Nice and Arsenal are weighing up a £20 million bid to bring him to North London. He has been getting rave reviews while on loan in France and is capable in playing at either full back position, which would provide Arsenal with some much needed squad depth. His pace is one of his main assets, but his defensive quality has been praised this season.
It is difficult to get too excited about this link as he is currently on loan at another club and it comes from a news source that is hardly respected in footballing circles. However, it provides Arsenal fans with an idea of what the club is looking for. Pereira is a good full back and one that is likely to become one of the better ones in the game, purely due to the lack of quality full backs coming through at the moment. He would be a good signing, but it is one that could be more likely in the summer, rather than January.
