Arsenal simply have to tie down Bukayo Saka to move forward as a club

The emergence of Bukayo Saka at Arsenal this season has been a massive boost in what has been an otherwise miserable campaign.

Saka has broken into the Gunners’ first-team picture and taken to the Premier League by storm. He’s already made 16 appearances this term and appears to be someone Mikel Arteta likes the look of.

Indeed, Saka was in fine form on Sunday as Arsenal romped home against Newcastle. His nutmeg on Magpies new boy, Lazara, was something that caught the eye.

However, it was the all-around game of the teenager that people should be talking about. Saka has adapted to life as a Premier League footballer with ease. For such a young player, there’s little doubting the confidence he exudes.

Arsenal have had a number of young talents emerge over the years. Cesc Fabregas was a huge success,  while the likes of Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs are among players to emerge from within the club and have good careers.

It is imperative, then, that the Gunners manage to keep hold of Saka.

Time to move forward

This season will be something of a write-off for the Gunners you’d suspect. Mikel Arteta is still finding his feet and will be looking more to next season to really make his mark.

To make that mark, he’s going to need his best players available and at the club. Saka, then, falls into that category despite his young age.

Along with Gabriel Martinelli, the Gunners have unearthed two prestigious talents who can take the club into the future.

The last thing Arteta needs to see now is a fire-sale of his best talent. Indeed, Arsenal have a history of this sort of thing.

They sold a number of players to Man City at the start of the last decade, while Robin Van Persie was inexplicably sold to Manchester United for Alex Ferguson’s last season at Old Trafford.

It is vitally important, then, that the Arsenal board stick to their guns and resist any temptation to cash in.

Only then, will Arteta have the best chance possible of leading Arsenal back towards success in the Premier League.
