Arsenal signing Isco would surely end Ozil's time in north London
Arsenal are in a race with Chelsea and Manchester City for the signing of Real Madrid playmaker Isco, according to the Sun.
They report that Maurizio Sarri’s side are looking to steal a march on their domestic rivals in the hunt for the Spaniard, moving to tie up a swift deal ahead of the January transfer window.
The Sun claim that the Blues are ready to offer £70m to the European Champions and £250,000 a week to the playmaker who is currently getting some flak from his own fans.
Isco is reportedly seen as surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu and perhaps Chelsea’s swift move will prompt a reaction from Arsenal.
Unai Emery is still looking for a reliable playmaker; Aaron Ramsey looks set to leave at the end of the season, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is yet to fully convince and then there is Mesut Ozil.
The German has been out of the side in recent weeks and does not offer the relentless pressing Emery demands from all his forwards.
Isco is a more mobile, athletic type of number 10, but making such a huge outlay on bringing him to north London would surely be the final nail in the coffin of Ozil’s Arsenal career.
Money and a space in the squad for Isco would need to be freed up and letting Ozil go would be the most obvious solution to that issue.
