According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
Diego Simeone is said to be a long-term admirer of the Swiss international. The Spanish club are looking to bolster their ranks in the middle of park, and the 26-year-old could be the ideal fit. The 74-cap international still has a long time to run on his current contract with the Gunners. However, he is not the most popular figure in north London, which may open the door for the La Liga outfit.
Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium in 2016, Xhaka has failed to consistently impress. At times, he has struggled to cope with the pace of the Premier League. On top of that, he has regularly been guilty of defensive lapses that have seen his side concede goals.

Whilst Xhaka may have plenty of positive attributes, such as a great passing range and a thunderous shot from distance, he is not the player who Unai Emery should be looking to build his midfield around. For that reason, the Gunners should welcome Atletico Madrid’s interest.
Arsenal certainly need to make a number of improvements this summer. The sale of Xhaka could fund some of that work. All in all then, a deal taking Xhaka to the Wanda Metropolitano would suit all involved.
