Arsenal should use Rob Holding as bait to land Allan Saint-Maximin from Newcastle

Newcastle United have been linked with a loan move for Arsenal defender Rob Holding and the Gunners should use the interest as a way to sign a player they could really use.

According to the Daily Mail, the central defender is among the Magpies’ list of transfer targets. Arsenal should utilise this as a bargaining chip to land previous target Allan Saint-Maximin.

The Northern Echo claimed in July that the ex-Nice winger featured prominently on Arsenal’s list of summer transfer targets.

Since then the interest does appear to have wavered but Steve Bruce’s interest in Holding should act as a green light for Arteta to revive his interest in Saint-Maximin.

The French speed demon signed for Newcastle last summer, costing the club £16.5 million and during his first season, he was impressive, to say the least.

He netted four times and registered seven assists from his 30 games despite spending some time out through injury.

Saint-Maximin is only 23 and could become a quality player for Arsenal in the future if a deal could be struck between the two parties.

Holding is unlikely to win back a regular place in the Arsenal team and the best thing for him is to go somewhere and play regular first-team football.

Quality

Arsenal aren’t blessed with loads of wingers and although they’ve added Willian, some reports have suggested he might be viewed as a No.10 next season.

With that in mind, signing Saint-Maximin could be ideal for the Gunners and given his quality he could really excite the supporters.

He is quick, flamboyant and crucially he has shown that he has what it takes to play week in and week out at Premier League level.
