TBR View: Arsenal should use Reiss Nelson to seal move for Brighton's Yves Bissouma

Not a day goes by at the moment without Arsenal being linked with a new signing, or another face emerging on the chopping block at the club.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are overseeing a huge summer of change at the club it seems. Arsenal have already landed Nuno Tavares, while deals for Albert Lokonga and Ben White are close to being done.

But with incomings come the inevitable departures. A number of Gunners regulars and younger players are said to be available, with the latest to join that list being midfielder, Reiss Nelson.

Nelson, 21, has yet to sign a new deal with the club. And reports this weekend have now suggested that Brighton, Crystal Palace, and Brentford all want the youngster.

Among those three clubs though, it is Brighton’s interest which should have Edu and Arteta springing into life. The Seagulls have a player the Gunners have wanted for some time in Yves Bissouma.

Bissouma has been on Arsenal’s list of targets for some time now. At one point, he seemed one of the clear favourites to make the move to North London.

However, a £40m price tag has seemingly put Arsenal off…for now.

Brighton’s interest in Nelson, though, gives Arsenal an ace in their pack with this deal. The Gunners could look to offer Nelson up in order to land Bissouma, and in turn, take some off that hefty asking-price.

Of course, a lot would come down to Brighton’s willingness to do a deal here. Both players play in different positions. However, it’s not the most ludicrous suggestion either.

With £50m due from White, if Brighton could land circa £20m and Reiss Nelson, then they’d have a new face, and ample funds to go out and replace Bissouma.

Certainly, this is something the powers that be at Arsenal should be considering.
