Arsenal should revive reported previous interest in Juventus defender Daniele Rugani

It’s shaping up to be a busy summer of outgoings at Juventus as new boss Andrea Pirlo cuts his managerial teeth – and Arsenal could be beneficiaries of his squad reshaping process.

According to Tuttosport, the Old Lady will try and find suitors for no fewer than seven players this summer. Sami Khedira, Douglas Costa, Daniele Rugani, Gonzalo Higuain, Aaron Ramsey, Blaise Matuidi and Alex Sandro are all in the firing line.

Central defender Rugani is an interesting one for Arsenal and if a cut-price deal could be done, it’d help the Gunners solve a tricky conundrum.

The report by Tuttosport claims Rugani could request a change of scenery having struggled to hold down a first-team place.

Arsenal need a centre-back or two this summer and the Italian has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium before.

The Sun reported as recently as June that the Gunners would challenge Wolves for his signature and interest could be rife.

Of course, those rumours might have been idle ones based on Arsenal naturally requiring a central defender.

Conundrum

According to The Sun, it was thought that Juventus wanted £25 million for the Italian defender, although Pirlo’s desire to offload him might see a lower deal be struck.

Signing Rugani is by no means nailed on and the 26-year-old is likely to have plenty of interested parties – Wolves potentially being one of them.

The 26-year-old played just 10 times in Serie A last, starting on just seven occasions in the top-flight.

Arsenal have held doubts over David Luiz and Shkodran Mustafi in recent times and boss Mikel Arteta will be keen to ensure his team are stronger at the back next season.

Rugani could finally kick start his career at Arsenal and it’ll be interesting to see whether previous interest is revived.
