During the summer of 2019, Yannick Carrasco very nearly signed for Arsenal. According to Sport, a deal was extremely close but for whatever reason, the Gunners never got their man.
Fast forward six months and it appears the former Atletico Madrid man might have made an error in not pushing for a move to the Emirates.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Crystal Palace are in talks to sign the player, whilst it is claimed West Ham have been offered his services.
Both of those clubs are battling it out in the bottom half of the Premier League.
Although the Eagles are level on points with the Gunners, swapping a potential move to Arsenal for one to Palace or West Ham would still represent a fall from grace.
The 26-year-old was bang in form during the 2018/19 campaign for Dalian Yifang. He smashed 17 goals and registered eight assists during his 26 appearances.
The Gunners have drawn their last three Premier League matches since a 2-0 win over Manchester United on New Year’s Day.
It’s fair to say Mikel Arteta needs a lift during this transfer window. As a result, a return for Carrasco wouldn’t be a bad thing.
One stumbling block might be that Carrasco earns £180,000-a-week (Daily Mail).
If a deal could be done, however, he’s the type of player that could hand Arsenal the lift they need.
Carrasco has 41 caps for Belgium and in playing 124 games for Atletico he has proved he has what he takes at a top European club.
Although Carrasco hasn’t played in the Premier League, he did help Atletico Madrid to a Champions League final where they lost to Real Madrid.
Arsenal do still have Europa League football on the table, whereas Palace and West Ham don’t look like securing that anytime soon.
According to Who Scored, Carrasco had nearly four shots on average in each game for Dalian Yifang last season, highlighting he’s not afraid to take risks.
If Carrasco is available during this window, then Arsenal would be wise to revive their 2019 interest.
