Arsenal should pull out the stops to land Allan Saint-Maximin during the summer

Allan Saint-Maximin could become a wanted man during the summer.

Arsenal have started to tick along nicely under the management of Mikel Arteta, winning four of their six fixtures since the restart.

The Gunners boss still has work to do and the summer looks like shaping up to be a busy time for the Spaniard.

Arteta’s team have been far more difficult to beat since his arrival and a few additions to the squad could help his team kick on even further.

One man who is on the radar of the Gunners is Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin. According to Le 10 Sport, Arsenal are keen to rival Napoli for his signature when the window reopens.

The French speedster signed for the Magpies during the summer of 2019, costing the club £16 million, according to Chronicle Live.

Saint-Maximin has enjoyed a splendid maiden campaign at St James’ Park. In 26 games in all competitions, he has scored four times and registered seven assists, hitting the ground running since football resumed.

At 23 there is still plenty of time for the ex-Nice performer to develop and playing under Arteta could bring his career on considerably.

Arsenal have done lots of things good under the stewardship of Arteta; although there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Ideal

One area where the Gunners do look particularly short is out wide and Saint-Maximin could prove to be an incredible purchase.

He is quick, direct and has the ability to dazzle his way around opposition full-backs with relative ease.

Quite simply, Saint-Maximin has the flamboyance and the array of skills to lift the roof at the Emirates Stadium.

Nicolas Pepe has started to get into his stride in the Premier League but more often than not Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been deployed as wingers on the other side.

Arsenal face a fight to get into Europe for next season and they might have to adjust their targets accordingly.

Saint-Maximin has come of age at Newcastle and is clearly relishing playing for the club and for manager Steve Bruce.

Playing for the Gunners would be a considerable step up, however, and the £36k-a-week star would surely have his head turned by the link.

Bruce has maintained that his player won’t be going anywhere but if a club the size of Arsenal shows some serious money, he could be powerless.
