Arsenal must move heaven and earth to sign 'sensational' player in January - TBR View

Gini Wijnaldum is wanted by Arsenal in a move that would see him make an instant return to life in the Premier League.

The midfielder left Liverpool after five years at Anfield in the summer, signing for Ligue 1 outfit PSG on a free transfer.

Things haven’t worked out for him in France. He has started just 10 games under Mauricio Pochettino and the club are willing to loan him out, as per Sky Sports.

Wijnaldum’s arrival has got lost in the middle of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos providing high profile summer additions.

Still, it was expected that he’d take Ligue 1 by storm given that he was an integral player at Liverpool during 2020/21.

Now, the Gunners are preparing to swoop for a superb loan deal. Mikel Arteta is desperate for consistency and he’ll want to challenge for a top-four finish.

There is a stumbling block for a deal that involves Arsenal taking Wijnaldum though. PSG, it is claimed, aren’t keen on letting him leave.

Of course, that could change though and if the Gunners could tempt the Parisians into loaning out Wijnaldum it would be a remarkable coup.

Options: Arsenal would welcome Wijnaldum in midfield

Thomas Partey has yet to prove his worth to the Gunners really and there is a midfield conundrum emerging.

Albert Sambi Lokonga is young and quite raw, whilst Granit Xhaka does still see consistencies creep into his game.

With that in mind, having Wijnaldum in the middle of the park looks like a serious upgrade as far as Arsenal are concerned.

The PSG player passes well, works tirelessly and has a pretty good record with injuries throughout his career.

The 31-year-old earns £165,000-a-week and he showcased unreal quality during his time at Liverpool.

In 237 appearances for the club, he scored 22 goals and created 16 assists. He also helped the club win the Premier League and Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp called Wijnaldum ‘sensational’ during his time at Anfield and signing him should be a no-brainer for Arsenal.
