Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi is the subject of an enquiry from Ligue 1 outfit Monaco, according to French publication L’Equipe.

The German enforcer could be moved on this summer if the Gunners can find a potential suitor.

Should Monaco want to buy the 27-year-old it will cost them around £27 million.

Arsenal signed Mustafi from Valencia in 2016 for £35 million but his relationship with the club’s supporters has been strained from the start.

During Sunday’s pre-season defeat to Lyon, Mustafi was booed by Arsenal supporters.

The defender earns £90,000-a-week at the Emirates Stadium, according to Spotrac, and those funds would be better used elsewhere.

Mustafi is a World Cup winner and during his three years in North London, he has played 115 games for the Gunners.

Monaco survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season. They will hope the arrival of Mustafi can improve their results during 2019/20.

TBR Verdict

This would be a tremendous deal for Arsenal if they can offload for £27 million.

Those funds can go straight back into the pot to bolster Unai Emery’s ranks and it would get an underperforming player off the books.

Mustafi’s time at the club has been littered with errors. For whatever reason, he just hasn’t cut it in the Premier League and a move looks good for all parties.

Losing a defender, however, will see Arsenal desperate for reinforcements.

There is just a week and a half to go until the season starts and Emery must ramp up his efforts to secure defenders prior to the big kick-off.
