Arsenal are reportedly set to hold talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding the transfer of defender Sead Kolasinac.
SportBild claim the Gunners are ready to try and offload the Bosnia international, with the Bundesliga outfit keen to instigate a return to Germany for the player.
Kolasinac didn’t play against Fulham last weekend, and it seems his exit from the club is a distinct possibility this window.
Having started off well, Kolasinac has never really been taken to by most Arsenal fans, with some of the opinion he should perhaps be better suited to the Premier League than he actually is.
Kolasinac leaving the club could have some interesting repercussions for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who has been deployed at left wing-back by Mikel Arteta on several occasions during his tenure.
There has been very little, if any, talk about Arsenal bringing in a new left-sided defender, and that could mean Maitland-Niles will once again be used out of position at the Emirates.
TBR’s View – Kolasinac departure may rule out Maitland-Niles dream
It is no secret that Maitland-Niles would prefer to play as a central midfielder.
But that is something he may have to shelve once again if £100,000-a-week star Kolasinac (Spotrac) departs and he isn’t replaced.
Also with Dani Ceballos back for another loan, and Mohamed Elneny seemingly now a central midfield option for Arteta, it looks as though Maitland-Niles hopes of an engine room role in 2020/21 could be dashed.
