Arsenal securing playmaker this summer could be the making of Guendouzi
Arsenal are reportedly ready to rival Everton for the services of Barcelona player Andre Gomes.
ESPN claim sources have told them that Unai Emery is keen to secure a deal for the Portuguese playmaker, who has caught the eye during his loan spell at Goodison Park.
Gomes has been an ever-present under Marco Silva and is adored by Toffees supporters for the graceful way in which he plays the game.
His permanent transfer is understood to be a priority this summer for Everton officials, but they could face a challenge from the Gunners, as well as Tottenham Hotspur.
Barca are hopeful of generating around €30 million (£26 million) by selling him, which should be within Arsenal’s budget.
Should Arsenal win the race for Gomes then it could be brilliant for the development of Matteo Guendouzi.
The French youngster has had a brilliant debut campaign at the Emirates after transferring from Lorient for £7 million (Goal).
He has emerged as one of Emery’s most trusted players, despite being just 20 years old.
Guendouzi tries to play without fear and is very impressive in the way he conducts himself, but he is still obviously very raw.
Arsenal signing Gomes could hand Guendouzi an excellent mentor, as the former Valencia man plays the game in a similar style.
29-cap Portual international Gomes is excellent at orchestrating play and can also glide through the lines with the ball at his feet, two things that the technically gifted Guendouzi should be trying to improve on.
