Arsenal are ramping up their efforts to bring in a new forward this month and have reportedly sent scouts to check on the progress of Lille striker, Jonathan David, as recently as last week.

ButFootball claims that both Arsenal and Liverpool sent scouts to Stamford Bridge to see David in action for Lille against Chelsea. Of course, the game ended 2-0 to Chelsea, with David having minimal impact on the game and being taken off with ten minutes to play.

However, Arsenal are thought to be high on David anyway. The scouting mission will, no doubt, have just been an added reason to keep an eye on a player who is in-demand across Europe. David is thought to be valued at around the £30m mark, with Liverpool quoted that figure back in January.

Born in New York but a full Canadian international, David has impressed in recent times. The 22-year-old has 16 goals this season, eclipsing the 13 he hit last term.

There is plenty to like about David. He is quick, aggressive, young, and does have that keen eye for a goal.

However, he isn’t exactly your traditional number nine type striker and that’s really what Arsenal are looking for in this next window. Sure, David would slot in and could play across the font. But the Gunners need that focal point now.

It’s worth them keeping tabs on David, of course. At £30m – if that is still the price – he could be a bargain in the current climate.
