Arsenal are reportedly scouting Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, who has been tipped to leave the Serie A side in the January transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, the Gunners have been keeping tabs on the Dutch international this season, with Atalanta open to selling Koopmeiners in 2024 if a bid of £55m is made.

Providing one of the best moments of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a cheeky free-kick to assist Wout Weghorst against Argentina, Koopmeiners’ stock has never been higher.

And with Arsenal now scouting the midfielder, there could be a chance that Mikel Arteta’s side make a move for the Atalanta star, with Newcastle United also interested in the 25-year-old.

Indeed, Arsenal are in the market for a midfielder in January, and Koopmeiners could be a perfect signing if the Gunners can reach an agreement over a transfer fee with Atalanta in the January window.

Moreover, with rival interest already there, Arsenal need to ensure that they present themselves as the most appealing club for Koopmeiners, who could be sold on a move to north London.

Arsenal need to seriously consider a move for Koopmeiners

Koopmeiners has been one of Atalanta’s best players in the last two years, and a move to the Premier League only feels natural for the Dutch international.

And Arsenal should seriously consider a move for Koopmeiners, with the Gunners in need of a versatile option in the midfield who could replace the likes of Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny.

Whilst Atalanta’s asking price is on the steep side, Arsenal have shown that they are capable of getting bargains in the market with the right negotiation tactics.

And Koopmeiners could fall into such a category, with Atalanta a club that could be tempted to sell if an enticing enough offer comes in from the Gunners.
