Santi Cazorla says 25-year-old Arsenal player has really kicked on this season
Arsenal cult hero Santi Cazorla has waxed lyrical about Gunners ace Gabriel Jesus, in conversation with the Daily Mail.
The 37-year-old believes the Arsenal summer signing has taken a step forward in swapping Manchester City for the Emirates.
Arsenal signed Jesus in July for a reported £34million, bringing Mikel Arteta’s search for a new No. 9 to an end.
The Brazil international hit the ground running at the Emirates.
Jesus registered five goals and four assists in his first nine Premier League outings for Arsenal.
And while goals have dried up in recent weeks, the 25-year-old remains hugely influential for the Gunners.
Jesus’ determination and work-rate have helped Arsenal go top of the table and reach the Europa League last 16.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that Cazorla has spoken highly of the striker.
“I love Gabriel Jesus,” the Emirates cult hero told the Daily Mail.
“I liked this player when he was at Manchester City but I think now he’s made one step forward because he feels now that he’s very important for the team.”
Jesus worth the wait
Cazorla is spot on – while Jesus dazzled at City, he was a squad player as opposed to the main man.
Now, the forward is leading the line for Arsenal, and it looks as though it has invigorated him.
Jesus was definitely worth the wait.
The Gunners could’ve looked to make a panic buy in January, and they didn’t.
Though this cost them in the short term – failing to reach the Champions League – it may have proven a masterstroke in the long term.
