Arsenal are going to have a busy last few days of the transfer window and it could be a disappointing period for supporters, with key players likely to depart. The Mirror report that Manchester City have offered to include Raheem Sterling in their bid to sign Alexis Sanchez. However, according to the Independent, the Gunners have asked for Sergio Aguero in part-exchange. It is known that Arsene Wenger doesn’t want to sell the Chilean and it would take a remarkable offer for City to land him. This is why every possible avenue is being considered.
Sanchez doesn’t want to stay at Arsenal. His body language is clear to everyone and it would be a smart move to agree on a deal to sell him during this transfer window. He is only going to lose value and there are no guarantees that he will motivate himself to play well for the Gunners during the next 12 months. If he does go, the Gunners will need reinforcements, which makes a part-exchange deal an appealing one. It would be great business if they could land either Sterling or Aguero.
Supporters will be desperate for Arsenal to enter the transfer market themselves to inject some positivity back into the club. Le 10 Sport report that Wenger is ready to put his fire-sale woes to one side by signing PSG attacker Julian Draxler. The German international is unhappy at the Ligue 1 club and could be allowed to leave as he is no longer guaranteed a starting position. The Gunners have been long-term admirers and would be interested in a transfer if the fee is a fair one.
It is clear Arsenal need to be picked up, as they have reached a new low after the last week. The loss to Liverpool was embarrassing, while the constant speculation about departures is a huge concern. They need to make one or two additions to improve matters both on and off the pitch. Draxler is a great player, who has proven himself at the highest level.
The Mail report that Arsenal made a late bid to hijack Jonny Evans move to Manchester City, but the centre-back isn’t interested in joining the Gunners. It is stated that Arsene Wenger made an enquiry, but has yet to make a formal offer. However, his interest comes too late, as the Northern Irish international has his heart set on joining Pep Guardiola’s side.
Evans is one of the better Premier League defenders and it isn’t surprising he is attracting interest from two top-six sides. Many may see him as an underwhelming signing for Manchester City, but he will be a great addition. Arsenal showed a lack of fight and organisation against Liverpool. A player like Evans would have been a great addition for them, as he would have added those qualities. Although they won’t sign him, it is encouraging that the club are looking at a player like the 29-year-old.
