Arsenal reportedly want to sign Mourinho outcast, that Rodgers raved about in 2020

Arsenal are reportedly keen on a move to sign Roma outcast Cengiz Under this summer, after the Turkish man endured a tricky loan spell at Leicester – but Brendan Rodgers’ comments from December will excite Gunners fans.

Under, 23, joined Leicester last summer on a season-long loan deal but has since managed just 19 appearances for the Foxes. He has been in and out of injury, and the form of Harvey Barnes among others has sidelined him.

During his 19 games, he only scored two goals – but Arsenal fans will remember his excellent assist that saw Jamie Vardy head home during a 1-0 Leicester win at The Emirates back in October. Now, Arsenal want him.

TuttoMercatoWeb say Arsenal are keen, with Mourinho’s Roma ready to sell for £17million. That might be a bargain, after Rodgers gave an exciting verdict on Under – claiming people do not realise how quick he is.

“He has that real special talent,” Rodgers was quoted as saying by The Mail – in December 2020. “People don’t realise how fast he is. He can run without the ball. But he can also make the last pass, he can dribble past someone, he can eliminate defenders out of the game.”

TBR’s view – Is Under good enough for Arsenal?

His form at Leicester is hardly promising. While he has shown glimpses of quality, and is still very young and probably needs more time to adapt in English football – ultimately, he failed to prove the hype at Leicester.

Going forward, does Under deserve another chance in English football? He needs to join a side where he starts and at Arsenal – he probably doesn’t. Cheap-ish, young and plenty of potential, but he needs to be starting.
