Arsenal and Wolves are both said to be monitoring Valencia striker, Maxi Gomez, according to a report from the Daily Mail today.

It is claimed Valencia may be forced into a sale despite only landing Gomez in 2019, with the club’s finances once again said to be in a dire situation. Gomez, it is claimed, has a release clause of over £100m, but Valencia are expected to accept far less than that for the Uruguayan striker.

Arsenal, along with Wolves, are said to be monitoring the situation. And for Arsenal, Gomez could prove an excellent signing and help solve their crisis in front of goal.

Indeed, his former coach in South America, Eduardo Acevedo, previously lauded Gomez as the ‘complete player’.

“Maxi is a complete player whose potential knows no limits. He is very powerful and yet possesses good technical skills and ball control,” Acevedo was quoted as saying. (ESPN)

Gomez has 19 caps for his country and hit 11 goals last season. He has only hit the three this term as yet, but, at just 24, is seen as a player who can improve further. Indeed, comparisons with fellow countryman, Luis Suarez, have also been made.

Gomez has more to give, Arsenal could unlock his potential – TBR View

People in South America and La Liga are already aware but Gomez is a player who Uruguay expects a lot from. The likes of Suarez and Cavani are coming towards the end of their careers, meaning Gomez needs to pick up the mantle.

The potential is there, definitely. He’s a fine player with a an eye for both scoring and creating goals.

And that is what Arsenal needs right now. If Gomez is available, he could prove a fine addition and be a big help to Mikel Arteta in the second half of the season.
