Arsenal are reportedly interested in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez amid reports he is unhappy at Anfield. It is being reported by 90min that the England international is disappointed with his role at the club since recovering from injury. The form of Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk has seen Gomez mostly used as a substitute.
The same report states that plenty of clubs around Europe are keen on Gomez but he would like a return to his native London. That has apparently alerted both Arsenal and their North London rivals Tottenham to his availability.
Of course, for Arsenal, it would be a case of second time lucky in a move for Gomez.
As reported by The Mirror in April 2015, Arsenal were the frontrunners for the player. Gomez was a boyhood Arsenal fan and being the only London club keen on his signature the destination seemed favourable. The report also claimed that Arsenal had a strong relationship with the Addicks and it seemed Gomez would be an Arsenal player.
Then he moved to Liverpool, with talkSPORT suggesting Arsenal had been beaten for his signature.
The fee involved in that deal was reported by the BBC to be in the region of £3.5 million. If Arsenal now wanted to lure him away from Anfield they can surely be expected to pay a much higher fee.
But if it means Arsenal finally get a hold of the talented defender then fans will undoubtedly be happy. Even if it is five years late.
