Arsenal reportedly want 'incredible' £25m-rated star, fans should be buzzing
Arsenal are back in the market for Houssem Aouar and some comments from Pep Guardiola mean they should be absolutely thrilled.
The French midfielder has been on the radar for some time. Arsenal tried desperately hard to sign him last summer but failed to make a breakthrough.
Now, Le10 Sport are claiming that Aouar is back in Arsenal’s sights. The Lyon midfielder could leave this summer and a fee of £25.7 million could be enough to sign him.
At 23, the playmaker is still to reach his peak and in the coming years, he will get even better. During 2020/21, he scored eight goals and claimed four assists in the white of Lyon.
It does look as though a move could be on the cards though and he could be perfect for Arsenal. The team seems desperately short of midfielders and Aouar could be an exciting signing.
Arsenal have Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in their ranks. Dani Ceballos has returned to Real Madrid, whilst Granit Xhaka looks likely to depart.
Would Aouar fit in at Arsenal?
It seems as though he would. He can operate at the heart of midfield, or as a left-sided player. He even featured five times for Lyon in the No.10 role last season.
Aouar would therefore be a tremendous signing for the Gunners and he certainly fits the profile of an Arsenal player nicely.
Mikel Arteta has done some really good things with the club’s younger players and for that, he should be applauded. In Aouar he could set himself up for another project and unleash the serious potential in the player.
What have they said about Aouar?
In recent times he’s had some serious praise thrown in his direction. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praised the performer in 2018.
He oversaw a 2-2 draw with Lyon in the Champions League and afterwards, he made some comments about the youngster.
He called him ‘incredible’ and ‘excellent’ during an interview with Sky Sports. Since such high-profile praise, he’s really kicked on. He’s now deemed as one of Europe’s top talents and Arsenal would benefit from his arrival.
Signing Aouar for just over £25 million makes perfect sense and would leave Arsenal fans seriously excited.
