Arsenal have reportedly been dealt a blow in their summer pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves, as Manchester United are ahead of them in the race for his signature.

Talksport claims that Man United are in pole position right now to sign the Wolves ace for £35million. They are at the front of the queue for the midfielder, despite Arsenal interest.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with Neves all summer, including by well-respected Gianluca Di Marzio earlier in July when he described him as a “top target” for Arsenal.

However, fresh reports suggest Man United are a serious threat to the possibility of the £58,000-a-week Wolves star moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Ruben Neves will be lost Arsenal opportunity at £35m

For Arsenal, they need to act fast in response to Man United’s interest.

Neves, 24, looks like someone ready to make a step up in his career.

He’s a deep-lying midfield playmaker that has been immense for Wolves since joining them, so it’s no surprise to hear big clubs are keen.

The Portugal international is someone who’s a great midfield anchor because he dictates possession with his range of passing.

Also, he’s now got an impressive CV at his age and plays so maturely.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is implementing an attacking brand of football to press high and keep the ball. However, he needs signings of Neves’ ilk to see big rewards on the pitch.

He could be an important piece of the jigsaw if he moves to north London. But Old Trafford could turn out to be his next destination.
