Arsenal reportedly set to miss out on Nabil Fekir because they can’t sell Mesut Ozil

Arsenal are unable to get a deal for Nabil Fekir over the line this summer because they can’t shift Mesut Ozil, according to L’Equipe via the Sun.

They report that the French international is available for £27 million in the current window – which represents very good value for a player of his quality and potential.

But Arsenal cannot take advantage because of the difficulties shifting Ozil’s monster wages off the bill – and offloading the German would also make a clear space in the squad for Fekir.

Ozil has looked at odds with Unai Emery’s high-octane style since the Spaniard arrived at the Emirates Stadium and Fekir is a younger, more modern playmaker who would be able to deal with the demands.

This has been a frustrating summer for Arsenal fans, with financial constraints in place because of the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League as well as coming from above, hampering their business.

They need senior improvements and they need them in quickly so they can assimilate with their team-mates ahead of a season where it’s imperative that the Gunners return to Champions League football.

Fekir in and Ozil out would have been an upgrade and freshened up the squad with a younger player who could provide the bullets for their devastating front two.
