Arsenal reportedly looking at playmaker worth more than £70m, that Thierry Henry loves the way he plays

The Mail claim Arsenal have idenfitied Leicester star James Maddison as one of the club’s top targets. The England international has been excellent once again during 2020-21 – attracting Arsenal. Thierry Henry is certainly a fan, judging by comments he made about Maddison in 2020.

Maddison, 24, surpassed 100 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions last term – taking his total to 118. He had a hand in 21 goals during his 42 games. Meanwhile, Arsenal need an attacking midfielder, with Martin Odegaard set to return to Real Madrid. Maddison has been identified.

The Mail claim Arsenal may have to spend more than £70million to get him – after a bid of that value was rejected last summer. Speaking to Maddison on Puma’s Instagram in 2020, as per the Metro, Henry told the England ace that he loves the way he plays and should not be afraid of having a big ego.

“Keep on doing what you’re doing because I love the way you’re playing,’ Henry said. “I like to watch players like you that think. Love the way you’re playing. But if you don’t have a big ego channelled towards the team, and what you need to do to help the team, you will never succeed.”

Surely Arsenal are aiming too high with Maddison, amid Henry verdict?

Maddison is a brilliant, brilliant player. He is the creative heartbeat in a Leicester side that also boast Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barns and Ayoze Perez. If Arsenal want to sign the England ace, then it will have to a club-record figure – more than the £72million they paid for Nicolas Pepe.

But even if they agreed a fee, would Maddison be tempted to leave Leicester? The Foxes have qualified for the Europa League, and he is crucial to their side. Arsenal are not even in Europe.
